Rule 033 – Monitoring – Wind – Solar
On June 12, 2019, the Alberta Utilities Commission (“AUC”) approved Rule 033: Standardized Post- Approval Monitoring Requirements for Wind and Solar Power Plants. This rule took effect on July 1, 2019.
The intent of post-construction monitoring standards is to ensure that approved wind and solar power plant owners and operators implement effective, consistent operational mitigation measures to minimize the potential for negative effects on Alberta’s wildlife and wildlife habitat. The AUC believes that the establishment of standardized post approval monitoring requirements will improve the consistency of monitoring obligations for owners and operators of approved wind and solar power plants, and will add certainty to the regulatory process.
